Inovonics 719N DAVID IV FM/HD 5 Band Radio Broadcast Sound Processor.
This processor has been designed entirely from the ground up to fit the needs of today's radio and online broadcasters, yet continues the DAVID (vs. Goliath) tradition of outstanding features, exceptional value and performance in an all-digital, DSP-based design.
Under the hood, the DAVID IV sports comprehensive audio processing, including 5 bands of dynamic range compression and equalization, gain-riding AGC, stereo field enhancements, sub-bass augmentation, and Inovonics' patented PIPP limiter. Also included are 25 factory presets optimized for popular contemporary world formats and 20 customizable user presets that can easily shared over station networks.
Processing is integrated with a high-performance stereo generator, featuring multiple independent level outputs, and an RDS sync with active and metered internal combining. This makes the DAVID IV a total package for broadcasters from mixing board to transmitter.
DAVID IV Rear Panel Appointments
The processor can accept analog and AES-digital inputs, and along with its independent composite/MPX outputs, both analog and AES-digital line outputs run simultaneously. These outputs can be configured for either pre-emphasized analog FM or 20khz-flat digital and analog audio formats, providing ideal integration options for just about any station or studio setup.
The DAVID IV may be set up and controlled using the intuitive front-panel menu display and jog wheel, or connected directly to a network for full remote TCP/IP control over all parameters via the supplied software. Field upgradable firmware updates take only seconds to do and are free forever.
DAVID IV Remote Software
One of the incredible benefits of the ground-up design is speed: The DAVID IV boasts a latency of only 4.2ms from any input to any output, in any mode, and boots or power-cycles to live audio in under 1 second. This enables better live monitoring for DJ's and on-air talent, and reduces downtime in the event of power failures.
How does it sound?
With tight lows, open mids, crisp but controlled highs, and the dynamic flexibility to really stand out, the DAVID IV delivers audio on par with products more than double and triple it's price class. Combine that with setup and controls that anyone - and we mean anyone - can use, mean it's never been easier (and more affordable) to achieve maximum audio performance without breaking the budget
The DAVID IV is the fourth generation in our DAVID (vs. Goliath) series of FM and digital air-chain processing systems. This streamlined DSP-based design gives broadcasters total leverage over the most important sonic 'signature' parameters, and the ease of control to optimize audio quickly and effectively. Processing includes 5 bands of dynamics compression and equalization, intelligent gain-riding AGC (Automatic Gain Control), sub-bass and stereo field enhancements, and our proprietary PIPP (Polarity Independent Peak Processing) limiter. The DAVID IV combines audio processing with a high quality FM stereo generator that also includes internal metering and combining for the RDS/RBDS RadioData subcarrier.
Setup is quick, and operation is intuitive via the front-panel interface or included remote PC software. Presets are provided for popular world formats*, and user settings can easily be saved/backed up and shared over station networks. TCP/IP connectivity is virtually automatic and allows full remote control and access from anywhere in the world. Processing and stereo generator aside, the DAVID IV features a rugged closed box design (no fans or heat-sinks needed), with ultra low latency hardware allowing for direct off-air monitoring, and power to live audio in less than 1 second.
But how does it sound? When it comes to audio performance, the DAVID IV really delivers. With tight lows, open mids, crisp but controlled highs, and the dynamic flexibility to really stand out, the DAVID IV's sound promises results on par with products more than double or triple it's price class. It has never been easier (or more affordable) to achieve maximum audio performance without breaking the budget
AUDIO PROCESSING FEATURES
PROGRAM HGH-PASS
A user-programmable high-pass filter attenuates sub-audible noise that could compromise modulation efficiency. The filter is adjustable between 20Hz and 65Hz.
AGC
Intelligent, gated 'gain-riding' AGC is quasi-average-responding with a capture/correction range of ±18dB. Positive AGC gain may be truncated to any value between 0dB and 18dB, and the correction rate of the AGC is programmable.
STEREO ENHANCEMENT
This dual-action utility effectively broadens the soundstage for both the stereo program and for the center-channel 'solo' component independently.
5-BAND 'MULTIPRESSOR'
Program audio is split into five frequency bands. Each band imparts both dynamic compression and adjustable static gain to afford fixed equalization and other 'signature' control of the program audio.
BASS AUGMENTATION
Sub-bass program frequencies undergo independent dynamic compression, expansion, selective clipping and filtering for control over both static 'Rumble' and dynamic 'Punch' of bottom-end components.
PIPP PEAK LIMITER
Inovonics' exclusive Polarity- Independent Peak Processor assures optimum modulation of the FM carrier or other delivery channel.
ADAPTIVE PRE-EMPHASIS
Fast HF limiting and distortion-cancelled clipping are utilized to best advantage in providing independent amplitude control of program frequencies subjected to FM pre-emphasis. This helps preserve program brightness and clarity despite power bandwidth constraints inherent in FM broadcasting.
COMPOSITE CLIPPING
At the user's discretion, up to 3dB of clipping may be applied to the composite/baseband signal. Clipping is performed before the injection of the stereo pilot and RDS subcarrier.
THE USER INTERFACE
FRONT-PANEL
A front-panel graphic display and jog wheel allow easy, menu-guided in-situ setup and operation of the DAVID IV. LED-bar displays indicate in/out levels and audio processing action.
SOFTWARE CONTROL
The IP network port and supplied software allow remote setup and operation of the DAVID IV over a local network or the Internet using any Windows PC (XP or later).
