New Antenna Installations for Various Local / Community Stations
New antenna installations for RTV Hollands Midden, Unity FM, Radio Bergambacht
On Friday, June 17, we delivered the new antenna installation of RTV Hollands Midden. A 17-meter-long pylon mast with two dipoles had been on a house in Ter Aar for years.
However, due to the expansion of the broadcaster’s area to include Nieuwkoop, there were problems with the signal in various places in the reception area. As a result, they have now moved to the municipality of Nieuwkoop, where a 40-meter-long mast was put into use. Two tuned stainless steel dipoles from our own “house brand” were mounted on this.
As a result, the signal in the region is in order again.
The new STAR/STAT1800 connection is used for the connection from the studio (and old broadcasting location) to the new broadcasting location. The problem that there was no visual connection between both locations posed a challenge for the STL link. 10 GHZ was therefore not possible, there was no internet at the transmission location, so the option for IP codes was eliminated. Partly for this reason, the STAR/STAT1800 was chosen, which makes a non-line of sight connection possible over a number of km.
In practice it turned out that over a distance of 5 km there was a large margin (20dBuV) for a perfect audio connection.
The STL’s transmitting antenna was only mounted at a height of 10 meters so that the large pylon mast can later be dismantled from the house and a simple pipe of a few meters will suffice.
With the commissioning of this set, RTV Hollands Midden is the first user of this new (AT-approved) system in the Netherlands.
On Wednesday, June 15, we replaced the antenna system of Radio Centraal Bergambacht. The old system was 15 years old and was mounted on an 11 meter mast at an animal feed factory in Bergambacht. Upon inspection above, not only the mounted rusty guy wires turned out to be loose, but also the antennas were in very poor condition and full of water. Time is urgently needed for replacement. Two new stainless steel tuned dipoles ensure that the installation can perform optimally again. The guy wires were also replaced with stainless steel material so that rust will no longer be a problem in the future.
On May 5, the antennas of the Unity FM location in Leiden were replaced. Here too, the standard dipoles were completely weathered and full of moisture, resulting in a very poor SWR. As a result, Unity’s old transmitter previously malfunctioned. The transmitter was replaced at an earlier stage and this job was also completed during an exceptionally beautiful day in early May. Here too, two dipoles from our own brand and renewing the cable from the transmitter to the antennas achieved the intended result.
In addition to our own installations, new antenna installations were also supplied to: Radio Ridderkerk (two x two element Yagi in stainless steel) and Radio Scheldemond (twice stainless steel Dipool). The installation was done by the broadcasters themselves.
