25 Years of ProFM: Our Story Part 3
Part 3: The Leap Forward: Gouwepark, Export, and Innovation
After years of working from the kitchen table, home offices, and a bursting attic, the time came to take the next big step. ProFM Solutions had outgrown its space—both physically and in its branding. The name “Solutions” no longer covered what we did; we had become so much more than just a troubleshooter. We had grown into a full-service broadcast supplier in the broadest sense of the word. Therefore, we decided to update our name to: ProFM Broadcast.
A New Home at the Gouwepark
To power this new phase, we moved into a large, modern commercial building at the Gouwepark in Waddinxveen. This move finally brought peace back to our homes and elevated our professionalism to an unprecedented level.
Of course, we had to celebrate the grand opening in style. It became an unforgettable day featuring a spectacular laser show, live DJs, and a massive BBQ for all our loyal suppliers and clients. The atmosphere was fantastic, and we clearly showed the market that we were a major player to be reckoned with.
The Digital Revolution: Hands on Experience with Internet Radio
It wasn’t just our building that got an upgrade; our digital storefront did too. We launched a new, much more advanced website. The biggest breakthrough was integrating iDEAL. Suddenly, buying online in the Netherlands became incredibly easy, and we watched the market change right before our eyes.
At the same time, technology was advancing at lightning speed. Audio over IP (AoIP) was becoming the new standard. Because we always wanted to stay ahead of the curve, we decided to launch our own internet radio station under the ProFM name. Having extensively operated in the FM market in the past, this was a logical next step for us.
However, this was more than just a hobby. We did this to gain valuable hands-on experience. By building a station from the ground up, we discovered the exact technical and logistical challenges that come with internet radio. This insider knowledge proved to be invaluable when advising our clients. Broadcast technology kept evolving: transmitters could now be controlled remotely, and podcasting and internet radio emerged as serious new markets that we could perfectly support thanks to our own practical experience.
Major Projects and Global Export
This technical expertise translated into fantastic, large-scale projects, such as building the complete studios for Radio Woerden. With the extra space in our new building, we could also handle the large export projects that came our way.
And did we grow! FM transmitters arrived in massive wooden crates and quickly found their way from our warehouse in Waddinxveen to far-off destinations like Ghana and Suriname. We had transformed into an essential hub within the global radio landscape.
Warmth in a Cold Country
This international trade also brought unique and heartwarming moments. We regularly welcomed clients from Ghana who came to inspect their equipment in person. I remember vividly when a group of clients arrived in our cold little country in November. Having left scorching hot Ghana, they hadn’t realized it was winter here, complete with freezing temperatures and snow. There they stood at Schiphol Airport in their T-shirts.
Of course, we immediately had to get them warm winter coats to help them survive the Dutch cold. It is these human moments, the cultural connections, and the genuine gratitude of radio broadcasters from all over the world that make this work so special. Over the past 25 years, we have experienced many of these unique moments, and each one has shaped the identity of ProFM Broadcast today.
